Intro to River Canoeing is the essential course for most people
paddling in the state of Alabama as we find ourselves on moving
water most of the time. You will get a firm foundation of
the knowledge needed to negotiate and keep yourself safe on up
to class II white water. You will learn gear, safety &
rescue, strokes, trip planning, river reading, river running,
and lots more things that have to do with getting down the
wonderful class I-II canoe runs in this part of the world.
You must
have your own gear and some prior experience to be in this
course. Please be prepared to exert a lot of energy as
this is a pretty tough course for those that are older or are in
bad health. It is also a course that is always held in the
Spring and Fall when the water temperature in cooler, so please
know that you will have to dress accordingly.
